Re: Medical Cannabis Treatments?
I am brand new to researching cannabis for my multiple myeloma. I know that I need to move quickly since I was diagnosed 8 yrs ago. I am interested in Rick Simpson oil. Did you use Sativa or Indica. I read that it depends on the type of cancer. I would appreciate any info you could share with me. Thanks and good luck.
Re: Medical Cannabis Treatments?
See earlier cautions on the link below on making your own oil. Also google on "residue carcinogenic Rick Simpson's Oil"

I'm not trying to say that I am against CBD here. I'm just suggesting to be careful wrt safety concerns while making the oil, as well as residue concerns, depending on how you decide to move forward.

Good, thorough article on the subject of cannabis and cancer in general.

Key excerpts:
There is no doubt that cannabinoids – both natural and synthetic – are interesting biological molecules. Hundreds of scientists around the world are investigating their potential in cancer and other diseases – as well as the harms they can cause – brought together under the blanket organisation The International Cannabinoid Research Society.
Researchers first looked at the anticancer properties of cannabinoids back in the 1970s, and many hundreds of scientific papers looking at cannabinoids and cancer have been published since then …
But claims that this body of preclinical research is solid “proof” that cannabis or cannabinoids can cure cancer is highly misleading to patients and their families, and builds a false picture of the state of progress in this area.

I can not make the RSO as it is illegal in Florida. How about the hemp oil from the health food store?

Re: Medical Cannabis Treatments?
I am a multiple myeloma survivor thus far. I was surgically stabilized from the effects of the cancer 2 years ago. I did 18 radiation treatments and about 5 rounds of the chemo med Revlimid and dexamethasone. It put the cancer in remission, but I could tell how altered I was from the meds and knew from studying about the cancer etc that the side effects of the meds could be more catastrophic to my body than the cancer to a point.
I stopped the chemo last May and 6 weeks later I began doing medical cannibas internally. I made the extract myself and have done one 50 day regimen and the cancer was still in deep remission, there were no indicators in my blood of the myeloma. I felt great, doing really good, getting stronger.
The cannibas never got me all so stoned out and for nausea I smoke about twice a day and I am never sickly, I have appetite, and it helps me sleep and take naps readily.
I am just beginning to do another 50-60 day regimen again. I had gotten the flu about 4 weeks ago and the coughing and vomiting blew out my ribs and sternum and I hurt a lot now and my last blood test showed the cancer was again present.
That last year when I did the regimen, I should have done it for longer to consume more of the cannibas. That's why I believe it has crept back. I was feeling too good and let it slide for too many months without blood work. This time I won't let it go so line without a blood test to keep me informed.
The cannibas is very gentle to the cancer patient and will do a better job of eliminating the cancer so I can live and have quality of life until I don't. Then it will be my time to make that final journey ...
God bless all fighting this battle. Be strong and kind to all,

Re: Medical Cannabis Treatments?
This thread has not received much update in a while, but I would like to add the following.
I have a friend who is a PhD in biology at a university here in New York. She does cancer research and helps me decipher some of the clinical studies that I have trouble with. Recently I asked her to give me her 2 cents on the N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone study that just came out here on the Beacon.
I have not heard back on that yet, but she sent me a link to a recent cannabidiol study that indicates that CBD inhibited U87-MG and T98G cell proliferation. This is not directly on point for myeloma, but she at least seems to think that I should look into cannabis oil in earnest. I have not entertained the idea until now, but if people smarter than me tell me to think about it, well I do.
I may post some updates here regarding my decision whether to go this route, after further reflection. Here is the link to the study:

Good luck everyone.

Re: Medical Cannabis Treatments?
I just had to update this misinformation. THX has been proven to not just kill cancer cells, but they disappear. Study done in a University in Madrid, Spain. With multiple myeloma, I would love to have their drugs administered with or without my bone marrow transplant. Very promising results.

Re: Medical Cannabis Treatments?
We have been using RSO oil for the last year. My hubby ended up in hospital last April, renal failure. He looked and felt so bad that I thought we were losing him. He went on dialysis and had to start chemo to stop calcium running into blood which in fact damaged his kidneys.
I started him on oil still in hospital. Very slowly as it would keep him stoned after the smallest dose. During the two months his kidneys started to recover. His blood test showed that cancer numbers dropped from 400 to 30. I know this was not only chemo working. Hematologist was surprised (to say the least and just called him "lucky guy"). We refused further chemo after his first 4 cycles. We stayed on oil ever since.
After much stress this April, his numbers started climbing again. This is concerning. We are starting to increase the oil and probably will switch to different strain to see if it may be more effective.
I do believe cannabis kills cancer but with no formal research it is usually up to the patients to roam for the producers, and make choices of which and how much to use. It's just horribly sad.

Re: Medical Cannabis Treatments?
i have had multiple myeloma for 2 1/2 years now with out any kind of treatment, other than the cannabis i have been smoking to relieve my muscle spasms and ligature contraction caused by my Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis or NSF/NFD. that i have had now for 8 years and in most people it can be considered to be a terminal disease, but i believe it has kept the disease from getting into my lungs muscles and killing me which is the way it normally kills. 0h by the way i am receiving no treatment for that disease either so i believe it has to be the cannabis thats keeping me alive. also i have had no colds or flu or any kind of infection other than the minor infection i got after putting a finger in my eye, and the case of shingles that i came down with a couple of months ago that only lasted a week . one thing i can tell you for sure is it is great for the control of muscle spasms, and helps greatly with the pain so that i don't have to take my hydrocodone no where near as much as before. i take the hydrocodone for all the damage i have done to my back over the years. i believe that cannabis has helped me to stay fairly healthy over the last 4 or 5 years, and if there ever was a miracle drug it has to be the THC/CBD in cannabis.

Re: Medical Cannabis Treatments?
Hi all - I've been on canabis oil the past 3 months with the knowledge of my oncologist. It most definately helps against nausea, restless legs, inflamation and pain (I have severel colapsed fractures in my spine), insomnia, depression and neuropathy. In fact, I am not using neurontin for neuropathy nor any pain meds since
.
No danger of any fungus infection as you don't smoke anything - the oil is prepared at a very high temperature.
Will be going for a back op the end of July (finally) - unfortunately my vertebraes became very brittle due to the calcium leaking from the fractures, and the neuro surgeon indicated that he will have to fuse my vertebrae from T8 down to L1. Not sure how this will effect my mobility but it beats the possibility of becomming paralyzed within 18 months.
