Re: Steve Mohr's Stem Cell Transplant
Just a quick update for everyone wondering how Steve has been doing ... We got a quick email from him this afternoon. He said that it's been hard for him to post the past few days because of the medications he's been receiving for nausea and other side effects of the treatment. However, he is feeling "much better" today, and expects to post again sometime soon.
Re: Steve Mohr's Stem Cell Transplant
I think most of us assumed that these first 6 or 7 days would be a struggle for Steve, for the very reasons TMB staff has just posted above. Still, it's very nice to be updated and reassured that all is going as expected.
Best,
Steve C.

Re: Steve Mohr's Stem Cell Transplant
I am day 23. I can understand Steve not posting everyday. I had a journal I started when I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. I stopped writing on day zero. It takes a lot of energy to just even sit around let alone write.
I have done most of my transplant as outpatient but did do 5 days in the hospital around day 13. My body right now is having some host versus graft issues and I have been prescribed prednisone for this. It's helping my appetite.
Best of luck Steve.

Re: Steve Mohr's Stem Cell Transplant
It's good to at least get an update as to Steve's progress. I know exactly what he's going through. The nausea medication can put you into la la land but it's better than going without. I look forward to his next post.

Thanks for sharing your perspectives, Kim and Rick.
Steve emailed about an hour ago to say that his numbers have bottomed out and he hopes to post this afternoon.

Re: Steve Mohr's Stem Cell Transplant
Good Morning,
The plan for me to give daily updates on my stem cell transplant has not come to fruition due to the simple fact that, since receiving the melphalan dose I, have been battling severe bouts of nausea and diarrhea. These conditions got so bad that all of my meds are are now given to me intravenously and I am taking several meds to control the diarrhea.
Fortunately, over the last two days the nausea and diarrhea has been somewhat brought under control.
My numbers have bottomed out today so, in effect, I have no immune system. Tonight I will receive the Neupogen shots to stimulate cell production
Some advice I would share:

Some advice I would share:
- Don't be afraid to ask for help, no matter how embarrassing or degrading your situation may be.
- Bring plenty of clothes, especially underwear or pajama,
- Exercise
- Stay hydrated as much as possible.

Re: Steve Mohr's Stem Cell Transplant
Hello Steve,
I am very thankful to you for sharing your experience with your stem cell transplant. My loved one was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in February. He completed 4 rounds of chemo (Velcade, Revlimid & dex) in early June and a stem cell transplant is on the horizon. So, that being said, your posts really hit home for us at this time.
My thoughts and prayers are with you everyday.
God bless you,
Kim
