Hey Steve ... looking forward to reading your posts.

The James at OSU is, as your already know, a highly reputed cancer center here in Ohio with a great deal of multiple myeloma treatment and research. In fact, I went there to consult with Dr. Craig Hoffmesiter when I was first dx'd back in 2010. And, I'm returning to The James on July 1st to consult with Dr. Don Benson as the ongoing multiple myeloma expert on my medical team. Of course by then you will likely have already returned home and will be well on your way to recovery. :)

Hi Steve, sending my best wishes to you that all that can go smoothly does so. I am very thankful that you decided to tell your story via the forum. I will be watching your updates & learning from your experience as I am due to have my stem cells re-engrafted as from 23 June, 2014.

Very nervous of the unknown so your posts will definitely be helping me. Thanks again & I truly hope that all goes well for you xo

Steve,

Ask for the "magic mouthwash"! This has no alcohol in it and some numbing agent in there. And if you get a mouth sore, it is awesome. I still have a bottle and refills for sores that I get from the Revlimid.

Also, don't be a hero and put off the nausea meds. They used Zofran, Compazine (prochlorperazine), and Fenygin. I was not sick at all.

Good thoughts and rest while you can and build up your strength.

Thanks Steve and all the best.

I have just started prep for stem cell collection for my SCT after my spinal surgery was cancelled and the SCT rescheduled accordingly.

it was my intent when the idea came up to do this thread to post something every day. Obviously that did not occur yesterday. When I awoke yesterday around 2:00 a.m. I was extremely nauseous, and remained that way for most of Thursday and part of today. I am really impressed with how concerned the staff here is about eliminating that condition, giving me numerous meds until it went away.

The infusion only took 35 minutes and no one in the room noticed the corn syrup smells that can typically occur.

Everything you eat is recorded and measured. Likewise, EVERYTHING that leaves your body is also recorded. Without question, this is the most unpleasant task that needs to be performed.

I basically take a double shower every day. The first is a regular shower. Then, after drying off, I take another shower with medical handi-wipes.

I know that the dog days are ahead, but the first 3 days have been tolerable and the staff here are top notch.

Steve -- Thank you for posting. I am just a few days behind you. I will be admitted for my transplant on Tuesday. Stay strong - and keep posting when you can. We can get through this ... I will be watching this thread closely ... I have 4 million cells on ice waiting for me to 'check in'.
