Re: PostiveChris's RVD / VRD induction therapy

Hello Chris.

Hope you battle the sickness quickly. I am getting my stem cell harvest tomorrow. I had a small scare during pretesting when I showed an abnormal ECG. This lead to an echo cardiograph test and a blood test for BNP and discussion of potential for cardiac amyloidosis. Fortunately, the follow-up tests showed normal values and even a normal ECG. So clearance was given to proceed with the autologous stem cell transplant.

Had some strong bone pain with the Neupogen injections, but controlled this with Tylenol 3 (acetaminophen / paracetamol & codeine). Good luck to you. 8-)

Hi folks, lots of good news.

I recovered from the sickness and am feeling well.

Stem cell collection went well, 9 million collected on day 1, goal was 8.

M-spike from Monday was 0!

Transplant starts June 21.

Until then, I just need to exercise and eat well. My hemoglobin is only 10.7, where it was up around 13 about 6 weeks ago.

Congrats on your bountiful stem cell harvest Chris. Mine took three days to achieve 5.3 million stem cells (enough for 2 stem cell transplants). I had fairly even numbers collected on each of the days, but less than 2 million each day. Had to borrow more G-CSF (Neupogen) for the extended procedure.

My Hickman line goes in on Monday, June 12, the melphalan on June 15, and the transplant on June 16.

Both the melphalan and the autologous stem cell transplant process went swimmingly and here on Day +1, I feel really good. I even went for a 5 km (3.1 mile) walk this morning. I know what lies ahead but I don't regret a single moment so far. Everyone at the hospital in the transplant outpatient clinic has been fantastic.

Stay Positive Chris!

Hi friends,

I just hit day 90 post autologous stem cell transplant today. Here's a quick recap:

- I did the whole stem cell transplant as an outpatient. It was hard, but not bad enough that I ever felt like I needed to check into the hospital versus staying at home. I live about a 40 minute drive from the transplant center. My wife was able to take 6 weeks off of work to take care of me.

- I got my "release" on day 13. I was really gunning for this day because in the forum I had not heard of many folks getting released from hospital before day 14. :)

- After my release, I went through a period of feeling lightheaded (likely because I was no longer getting fluids every day)

- I started my stem cell collection at 180 pounds, and I got down to about 168 again during the transplant. I'm back up to 177 now.

- I went back to work on day 38! I was supposed to only work from home, but I want back into the office on day 39. :)

- I have not been sick at all, and my energy levels have normalized after the first few weeks back working.

- My bone marrow biopsy came back, and I'm still not minimal residual disease (MRD) negative. :( I have 75 ppm cancerous IgG, and 153 ppm light chains. I am in stringent complete response (sCR), though.

- In 2 weeks, I'll start consolidation, which will be more Kyprolis, Revlimid, and dex (KRD), but with reduced Revlimid (15 mg daily days 1-21) and dex (20 mg weekly).

- My doc fully expects me to get to MRD negative. I'll do another bone marrow biopsy after 4 cycles.

- Assuming I am MRD negative after that, it's likely maintenance (either Kyprolis or Revlimid single agent) for awhile after that.

- Most of my bone pain is gone, and my range of motion isn't impacted. I'm starting with a personal trainer tomorrow to help get me back into shape.

Thanks so much to this community who have given me tons of education and hope. THANK YOU, and I hope to be around and contributing to this group for many years to come. :)

Much love!

That's great news Chris. Glad to hear from you. It's Day +101 today for me and I am also doing well, feeling fit, and I've returned to work. I have never reached a complete response yet and perhaps won't, but my M-Spike has continued to descend slowly.
