Re: Dear hubby's stem cell transplant saga

Cathy, thanks for sharing the updates. These give me an idea (not to mention hope) of what to expect post transplant.

I read back through yours and Mark Pouley's transplant experiences and realized how important they were for me in making a very difficult decision and preparing myself physically and mentally for the transplant. Thank you so so much.

Hope your husband is feeling 100% or as close to that as we can get!

Chad,

I hope you are doing well too! My husband is doing great and we are going about the business of getting ready for Christmas. Last year at this time he was so sick we did not even put up our tree. This year decorations are up and we are headed out for a marathon Christmas shopping day on Saturday! :D We feel so blessed.

It has been a while since my last update. My husband is doing really well and is doing maintenance every other week with Velcade injections. They make him a little achy and tired for 24 hours or so, but other than that he is tolerating them really well. It is pretty much life as usual for him again, We feel so blessed. We have booked our yearly spring week in a cabin in the Smoky Mountains for May. We had to skip it last year due to his multiple myeloma and treatment. We are so looking for forward to it. :D

That's great news Cathy. So glad to hear that things are pretty much normal again. I think we don't appreciate "normal" until we lose it.

Have an awesome spring break!

Well, this time last year we were recovering from my dear hubby's stem cell transplant. I am SO delighted to report that all his one-year scans, bone marrow biopsy, kidney and blood work are normal. His marrow is clean and he is still in complete remission. :D We feel so blessed.

He does pretty much what he wants, maybe getting tired a little sooner. He will remain on every other week Velcade injections for the next year, with every 3 month SPEP (serum protein electrophoresis) for monitoring the myeloma.

Congratulations to you and the hubby. Such great news of your healthy anniversary. On this day last year I was preparing to have my stem cells harvested and my infusion birthdate is July 22. I too am well and living life to its fullest. Much credit to your reports a year ago I made it to this point. Thank you and continued good health to us both.
