Thanks Jim,
Artifact from radiation treatment, I don't know, can radiation treatment cause a slightly higher than normal kappa/lambda reading? Or am I misunderstanding this?
The neurosurgeon has directed x-rays of his feet to see what is going on there.
Has anyone every heard of lytic lesions occurring in one's feet (when there are no widespread lytic lesions elsewhere)? I know spinal cord, ribs, and skull are more common places.

Re: My story
LM,
I don't know if radiation can (temporarily) knock a patient's kappa/lambda out of the normal range. That's why I included a question mark at the end of my sentence "Perhaps its an artifact of his radiation treatment?" It just occurred to me that radiation is designed to kill off parts of the bone and bone marrow, so it could affect things like a patient's free light chain levels and ratio. But your father's doctor has the experience necessary to really say whether or not that's a plausible explanation for what is happening.

I'll tell my dad to ask the myeloma specialist.

Re: My story
The MOH approved a PET scan for my dad, it will be done in about two weeks.

Re: My story
Can a kappa / lambda ratio of 2.55 cause neuropathy in the legs all on it's own? What does everyone else think?

Re: My story
Well, not the greatest of news, the PET scan has appeared to have found two areas of concern, one where the original solitary bone plasmacytoma was, and another on T4. The hematologist called my father to explain so, and that she would be consulting with the myeloma specialist at Princess Margaret Hospital before his next hematology appointment later this month.
I think I will go to this hematology appointment with him, as I've been around this forum long enough to know what areas of concern mean on a PET scan.

Re: My story
Ya, my dad's hematologist wants him to consider the CyBorD regimen in the not so far future; my dad's kappa free light chain level is at 32 and the kappa / lambda ratio has risen from 2.55 to just under 3 (not a major jump, but a slight rise). Also, the hematologist confirmed there were two areas of my dad's spine where the PET scan found metabolic activity and believes systemic treatment would be a suggested at this point.
