Happy Canada Day, July 1
I want to wish all readers a 'Happy Canada Day', which is on July 1. This year is special since it is the 150th anniversary since confederation of our country in 1867.
I remember the 100th anniversary. when I was a high school student. I went on a cross country train trip with other 'Centennial Travellers', from Vancouver to New Brunswick We were billeted with a French speaking family in Edmundston, and the train stopped in Winnipeg, Ottawa (to see the Parliament Buildings) and Montreal (for Expo 67).
I am singing with my choir at a citizenship ceremony being held at the airport on Saturday morning. So pretty much know our anthem in English and French! We are also performing a medley of national songs, from over 15 countries, and a Zulu song of worship!

Happy Canada Day Nancy. Sounds like you have a busy day. Wonderful to get out and enjoy the festivities. I'll have to wait until next year, being only 15 days post transplant. However, my wife and I will find our own way to celebrate the day. Cheers.

Sounds like you are doing quite well after the transplant, Colin, and hope that continues! Have a nice Canada Day also. It was an honour for our choir to sing at a citizenship ceremony at the new International Arrivals part of the airport. It was the first time they had held that ceremony there. As well as our choir, the Airport Pipe Band was there, and a lot of white hatter volunteers! We had lunch and cake afterwards too, along with the 50 new citizens. Then in the afternoon Dilip and I took the C-train downtown to see the festivities there. We toured the new Music Centre. Now, this is a far cry from where I was at eight years ago last July when I was a newly diagnosed myeloma patient. I could not have imagined then how my life would improve from that low point.

It is a step in the right direction that CADTH announced last week that they have a positive recommendation for the use of Darzalex, along with either lenalidomde (Revlimid) or bortezomib (Velcade) and dexamethasone, as a second line of treatment at least.

Negotiations Completed for Kyprolis
In January 2018 the panCandian Pharmaceutical Alliance (pCPA) announced that price negotiations for Kyprolis (carfilzomib) for two indications to treat myeloma have been completed.
The next step towards gaining access to this therapy is for the provincial drug plan managers to implement the conditions of the Letter of Intent within their provinces. This can take a few weeks to a number of months depending on their budgets or formulary cycle.

Update on Negotiations for Kyprolis:
There are still no provinces that have agreed to fund Kyprolis, even though a letter of Intent has been signed between the pharmaceutical company and the pCPA.

Thanks for the updates, Nancy! I haven’t been paying close attention as I am still in remission after finishing my induction treatment in June 2015. No maintenance drugs. No stem cell transplant.

Re: Canada & multiple myeloma
Good news from two provinces concerning the approval of Kyprolis for relapsed patients. This regimen would be Kyprolis, Revlimid, and dexamethasone, or just Kyprolis and dexamethasone.
On March 9, the Manitoba Provincial Oncology Drug Program, and on April 1, the British Columbia Cancer Agency (BCCA) each approved the above treatments.

More good news about funding for Kyprolis by Cancer Care Ontario, in the province of Ontario.
The eligibility criteria are as follows:
Carfilzomib (triplet therapy) – in combination with lenalidomide (Revlimid) and dexamethasone for multiple myeloma patients who have received at least one prior treatment.
Carfilzomib (doublet therapy) – in combination with dexamethasone for multiple myeloma patients who have received at least one prior treatment.
More information would be available from a hematological oncologist as to whether or not Kyprolis would be the appropriate treatment for any given myeloma patient.
