This week's weekly polls are about how happy myeloma patients are with their decisions to undergo stem cell transplants. This one is about autologous stem cell transplants. There's one running simultaneously about allogeneic (donor) stem cell transplants.
A few clarifications:
First, this question is for readers who have multiple myeloma and have had at least one autologous stem cell transplant (that is, a stem cell transplant involving a patient’s own stem cells – not stem cells from a donor). If you have had both types of transplants, feel free to vote in both of this week's polls.
Second, if you are a caregiver or family member of a myeloma patient who has had an autologous stem cell transplant, feel free to answer on their behalf.
Third, if none of the options perfectly summarize your feelings about your decision to have an autologous transplant, please select the option that best categorizes how happy you are with your decision and comment below to explain.
As always, feel free to post additional comments, thoughts, or feedback in the space below.
Details of your own stem cell transplant experience – why you are happy or unhappy about your transplant experience, the challenges you experienced, how severe they were, and how you dealt with them -- will be very useful to other readers.

Re: Weekly Poll - Happiness With Auto Transplant
Had an auto SCT in Dec 2011, my remission lasted 7 months and was very hopeful for more time- only on Revlimid 10mg a day. Would definitely ask for more aggressive follow up care after SCT - and will do so if I undergo another.

Re: Weekly Poll - Happiness With Auto Transplant
I was unable to complete the survey due to the language of "happy, unhappy, satisfied, dissatisfied."
Truthfully, I'll never know what to attribute my sustained remission to. Perhaps I would have ended up here without the transplant, as the initial chemotheraphy was fairly successful. It was a choiceless decision--refusing it was never discussed. It was presented as almost mandatory.
I was never happy or satisfied about having asct. I went along with it and survived. I feel fortunate, but the experience took a lot out of me.

Re: Weekly Poll - Happiness With Auto Transplant
My auto was in June 2010, I developed neutropenic enterocolitis which nearly killed me. Renal failure, lung collapse and the heart wasn't happy. I had the gastrointestinal surgeons ready to take part of me away if need be!! I did recover which goes to show what the human body can be subject to and bounce back from. I wouldn't have minded the pain if it had killed the myeloma but it didn't. Within 2 months of getting out of hospital the cancer was back to where it had been prior to the auto.
I am glad I had an allo last year.
