Weekly Poll - Caregivers And Support Group Attendance

by Beacon Staff on Thu Dec 13, 2012 2:41 pm

This week's Myeloma Beacon “Weekly Polls” are about support group attendance among myeloma patients' caregivers and family members. This one is about how often caregivers attend support group meetings. A second poll is about how helpful caregivers find support group meetings:
https://myelomabeacon.org/forum/weekly-poll-caregivers-and-helpfulness-of-support-groups-t1517.html

As usual, there are a few clarifications.

First, this question is for caregivers and family members of people who have any kind of myeloma (e.g., smoldering or symptomatic) or MGUS. Thus if you are a myeloma patient, please answer on behalf of your caregiver or most relevant family member.

We have already done a similar poll asking about myeloma patients' attendance at support group meetings:
https://myelomabeacon.org/forum/weekly-poll-do-you-attend-myeloma-support-group-meetings-t670.html

Second, when answering the poll, please try to reflect not just how often you have gone to support group meetings in the past, but also how often you expect to go to meetings in the future.

Third, if you don't go to support group meetings, don't be afraid to say so. It's just as useful to have answers from people who don't go to meetings as it is to have responses from people who do.

Finally, feel free to post comments, thoughts, or feedback in the space below. They can be very useful to other readers.

Hello,
I answered that we didn't attend a support group, but it 's not for lack of interest. We live in a sparsely populated area of northern Mich, 3 1/2 hrs away (1 way) from the Univ of Mich, where my husband is in the Carfilzomib, Revlimid, Dex study for newly diagnosed multiple myeloma. The Beacon and a couple other multiple myeloma websites are my support groups.

The only reason that I don't attend support meetings is that they are not nearby. During the spring, summer and fall, we would have to travel 1 1/2 hours to get there. In the winter, we have a support group that is close by that we attend monthly.

We would attend one if it was closer to where we live and had more of a mix of younger patients.
