This week's editions of the Beacon's Weekly Polls are about the timing of stem cell transplants. Donor transplants still are not very common for myeloma patients. They are typically reserved for people who do not have many other treatment options. However, some people are choosing to do them early in their therapy, since donor transplants are the only known potential cure for myeloma. If you have undergone a donor transplant, what timing did you choose?
A few clarifications:
First, this question is for readers who have multiple myeloma and have had an allogeneic stem cell transplant (that is, a stem cell transplant involving a donor's stem cells – not the patient's own stem cells).
Second, if you are a caregiver or family member of a myeloma patient who has had a donor stem cell transplant, feel free to answer on their behalf.
As always, feel free to post comments, thoughts, or feedback in the space below.
This week, we are running two polls. If you have had an autologous stem cell transplant (using your own stem cells), be sure to vote in that poll as well:
When did you have your first autologous stem cell transplant?

Re: Weekly Poll - Allo Transplant Timing
My situation is a bit too complex for the poll. I developed a secondary malignancy (AML) from my auto transplant, so needed to go through chemo treatment for that in advance of an allo, which is primarily designed to keep the AML from relapsing. We hope that we'll get "2 for 1" this time around, as the auto left me with just a small amount of multiple myeloma. So far so good, but I'm just 40 days past the allo.
