Re: The cost of Revlimid - what do you pay?

by wesley on Mon Jun 22, 2015 2:16 pm

My cost is $60 per month. I don't know what my employer (self-insured) pays Celgene. I don't think I want to know!! I know they will spend more money on me in health care than they ever paid me in salary!!

Revlimid caps 25 mg. Cost for 21 capsules is $10,193.85 (that's $485.42 per 25 mg capsule).
My plan covers $10,118.86, and I pay $74.99.

Plus: Free Saturday Next Day shipping because I need to sign for a package and can't do that during the week.

20 mg for a 21-day supply $9,684.00, but that includes overnight shipping!

Oh, and if you go the stem cell transplant way and have to do Neupogen injections – take hold – a hopping $58,550.72 for 7 days of 4 microgram injections. Yes, micrograms.

When I was first diagnosed, I was taking Revlimid at 25 mg and the cost was around $9,400 for 21 pills. It would fluctuate every few months. I now take Revlimid again as a maintenance at 15 mg and it's $10,150. I really don't think that the mg would make a difference, but it seems like there is no standard for pricing.

I have Express Scripts and can check all my prescriptions and their costs; that's where it shows the pricing.

I also have an Aflac cancer policy. I turn in my treatments from my oncologist to them monthly. Just to add more cost info, Velcade is $1,650 per injection (times 4 per month). I am glad that we all have these treatments available to us, but the costs are unreal.

United Healthcare, our insurance company just called. Told us Revlimid would cost $17,000 per month.. No thanks! No wonder the UK said no to it.

Hi,
I live in the UK and am on Revlimid and dex as1st line of treatment. Nice (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) officially rejected it at first relapse but still allows its prescription at second relapse. My haematologist got it from the cancer drugs fund. The NHS also struck a deal with Celgene whereby Celgene would pay after 26 cycles. I love the NHS!

Hi All,

To all concerned with the absurdly high cost of Revlimid, I noticed this paragraph in Celgene's quarterly results today. While not immediately helpful, a generic will be sold starting in ~6 years.
In December 2015, Celgene announced the settlement of litigations with Natco Pharma Ltd. and its partners and affiliates, relating to certain patents for Revlimid®. As part of the settlement, Celgene agreed to provide Natco with a license to Celgene's patents required to manufacture and sell an unlimited quantity of generic lenalidomide in the U.S. beginning on January 31, 2026. In addition, Natco will receive a volume-limited license to sell generic lenalidomide in the U.S. commencing in March 2022, which is expected to be a mid-single-digit percentage of the total lenalidomide capsules dispensed in the U.S. during the first year of entry. The volume limitation is expected to increase gradually each twelve months until March 2025. Natco's ability to market generic lenalidomide in the U.S. will be contingent on its obtaining approval of an Abbreviated New Drug Application.

Best! BN

Unfortunately we have to wait a minimum of 6+ years until this will happen. The other part of generics is that this still will probably be a high cost drug. A lot of generics have gone way up in price, over 1000%, since generics were more available in the market. I hope that a generic Revlimid will be much more in line with people's ability to purchase it.
