Today is 1 year exactly since my dad received his stem cells. We were so scared and nervous prior to. I'm just posting this to share some hope and joy. A year later he's feeling great, life pretty much back to new "normal" for months now.

I had an auto in April of '10 and if it wasn't for the snow, cold, OU/OSU and MO/AU football games I would be fishing.

Auto SCT in the winter of 2009-2010, leading to complete remission. I'm doing well and feel like I have my life back, for the most part. Working in my yard again makes me feel alive.

Gil S is "right on the money". I had an auto in early 2011 and allo with full conditioning in spring of 2011. I am back to exercising and leading a normal life. Drug free remissions make for great quality of life. Wayne K, Gil S., darnold and Wrast 4532's dad all have a great attitude. Hopefully many years of remission are ahead for all of you. I must confess I am like Wayne K am settling in on the sofa for a long day of college football today even though I cannot imagine it can top last Saturday!

So awesome that you all are chiming in with positive vibes. I was starving for a message thread like this 1 year ago-let's keep it going for all of the others starting the journey. Also sending energy and thoughts for those who's road has been more challenging. So thankful for the medical teams!
Last year I couldn't burn a fire in my fireplace or put up a real Christmas Tree b/c dad had to stay with me for the outpatient treatment.
I bought the biggest tree that could fit this year!

I had an Auto SCT just over 4 months ago. I had to stay in hospital for 4 weeks as I also have amyloidosis . I had nausea, vomiting and felt unbelievably weak but I got stronger every day. Now I am in complete remission - no cancer cells in my bone marrow biopsy yay! I am still tired and sleep more than I did before but it has only been 4 months . I have gone back to work part time and go back full time in January. Even though I felt like crap during the SCT I knew I was doing it all to get better, and I do fell better, it was worth it. Now I just need my hair to grow back!

I, too, want to send a message of hope to those embarking on ASCT. I had mine in Jan 2010 and was drug free until last December. Slowly I regained my strength and returned to a fairly normal life. But, it hasn't been until recently that I felt comfortable in making plans for things for more than a couple months in the future. In the past couple of weeks I have been making plans for trips and other events for next year with a couple of things scheduled for late 2014. That is a huge step for me. I can look to the future.

As someone headed to Mayo Rochester Jan. 31 for ASCT, I can't tell you how grateful I am for these positive stories of healing... I am ready to continue the journey!!

What a great thread.
I love hearing all the positive information and experiences. I underwent an Auto in Oct 2010, and enjoyed thoroughly 2 and a half drug free years. Worth every minute of the transplant itself. I begin another Auto this week, to be followed by an Allo in a few months. I look forward to adding some really, really good news to this thread in about year or so. The transplants themselves are no picnic, but in my view, the hopefully drug free remission is worth the pain.
