Some good news!

by mikeb on Wed Jul 23, 2014 10:23 pm

Although I've only met one fellow Myeloma Beacon poster / participant in person (that I know of), I feel like I'm part of a really cool community here. I almost feel like I know many of you just from your posts. For that reason, and because we often deal with bad news or at least difficult issues here, I want to share some good news that I just received.

I got a call from my oncologist's office this afternoon telling me that, after 1 1/2 years of treatment, I have moved directly from VGPR to sCR based on last week's blood, urine, and bone marrow lab results. I know I still have a long road ahead of me (and I'm glad it's a long road :D ), but this feels like an important milestone to me.

I hope that my good news encourages lots of other folks.

That's good news, Mike! Are you on a 'maintenance' sort of treatment, or taking myeloma drugs of any kind? (If you don't mind sharing that info, that is.) How is your MIT biology class coming along? I am really enjoying the study, although the pace is quite quick for me. Hope to finish it really, in the time available. Thanks again for mentioning it!

Thanks, everyone, for the congratulations and good wishes. You all make me feel good.

It's neat to be part of this community, even though I'm sure we all wish we (or a loved one) didn't have multiple myeloma, which is what connects us in the first place. Kind of ironic, I guess, but part of accepting the new normal that we all go through.

Anyway, Nancy, yes I've been on Revlimid maintenance since Sept 2013. The plan is to continue that until Sept 2015. Glad you're enjoying the Biology course. Me too, but I'm way behind. And I'm going to get further behind as I'm heading out on a 5-day vacation today. It was planned a long time ago, but the timing is great since I have the good news to celebrate.

Thanks again, everyone. And best wishes to each of you in your own journey with multiple myeloma.
