Skull lesions with multiple myeloma
Is it common to be diagnosed with multiple myeloma and have lesions on the skull?

Re: Skull lesions with multiple myeloma
I have a skull lesion. I only noticed it when leaning on the spot heavily. Not particularly worrisome.

Re: Skull lesions with multiple myeloma
I've been told that I have many of them in my skull and throughout my body. They don't cause me any problems. I joke with people and tell them that I officially have holes in my head.

Re: Skull lesions with multiple myeloma
I have them too, described as lesions and thin patches in my skull and throughout my body, but none as severe. I think this is pretty common.
I have looked at my x-rays and I can kind of see what they are talking about with my skull, but it does not look anywhere as bad as some of the x-rays I have seen on the internet from others with myeloma. Feeling my skull with hands, I cannot tell feel or tell where any lesions might be.

Re: Skull lesions with multiple myeloma
My husband has several lesions on his skull, including a large one (~1 inch in diameter, ~0.25 inches deep) that is clearly visible from the outside. In and of themselves, there really isn't anything to report -- since it's a symptom, the best thing is treatment of the myeloma.
The skull lesions are (from my husband's perspective) less worrisome than the ones in his arms / legs / etc., as those are "load bearing" and more likely to cause a break.

Re: Skull lesions with multiple myeloma
I am glad to hear that no one has experienced any difficulties with this symptom.
Well, I guess this confirms my dear sweet mother's comments of "You must have holes in your head" when, as a teenager, I used to conveniently "forget" to follow instructions!

I have a patch of lesions on my skull, too (as well as elsewhere). They've never bothered me, unlike the ones in my ribs. I just make jokes about literally having holes in my head!

Re: Skull lesions with multiple myeloma
Are the skull lesions apparent by physical exam? Are they 'dimples' in the skull?

Re: Skull lesions with multiple myeloma
I think that the best way to detect lytic lesions is by skeletal X-ray or by other scans such as CT or MRI. I have many lytic lesions, but apparently eventually they may fill in with a cartilaginous material. I was really shocked one time at a skeletal survey to see the technicians gasp! I asked if I could see the X-ray and there was a circular lesion on my skull about an inch in diameter. I have a really good reason to wear a helmet when cycling and in general to try to avoid falls! I don't know if bumpiness on the skull would be because of lytic lesions or if everyone has some uneven areas on their head, though.

My experience is that there was no external physical evidence of the skull lesion.
