Re: Skin cancer with multiple myeloma

I was diagnosed with melanoma on the bridge of my nose three years ago and had MOHS surgery that seemed to clear up the problem. I wasn't diagnosed with multiple myeloma until November 2015 (in T7 vertebra).

Since I am a Vietnam vet, I related this disease to my being exposed to Agent Orange during my tour. I have also been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes (December 2015). My doctor attributed this to reaction to taking dexamethasone to treat the myeloma. However, I also am attributing this disease to Agent Orange.

My bone marrow biopsy showed that the myeloma had not entered the bone marrow yet. As we all know, it is a wait and see with multiple myeloma. For now I am just biding my time and working on my other diseases. I am required to have another CT in the next month. I am presently doing a monthly treatment of Zometa to strengthen my bones

I had a melanoma two years into treatment for multiple myeloma. My specialist said Velcade is like fertilizer for skin cancers. My dermatologist said it was due to a suppressed immune system (although I am the healthiest person I know, other than having multiple myeloma). My specialist recommends all multiple myeloma patients have routine skin checks. My cancerous " freckle" on the top of my foot looked totally normal to me. I'm fortunate I found a good dermatologist that thought otherwise.
