Re: My SCT went well, but I am not feeling good - advice?

by Elfriede on Thu Oct 30, 2014 2:51 pm

Dear Friends:

I have a new cancer: a dangerous brain cancer. 2 weeks ago I have had surgery in the best German medical centre on the head.

I will get radiation and chemo as soon as possible..

It is terrible for me and my husband and family and friends.

Is the myeloma not enough?

But now I know why I was not feeling good.

I am so sorry to hear your news, Elfriede. What led you to be checked for the brain tumor, and are you feeling better now that they have done the operation?

I hope that the surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy are successful in taking care of the brain tumor, and that the treatment is not too difficult for you.

Please let us know how we can be of help. We are always here to listen and offer support.

Dear Elfriede,

I am very sorry to hear that you are dealing with this very hard situation.

I wish I could find the right words to comfort you, but I can’t, so I’m going to joint Cheryl G in all what she very well said.

Please, know that you are going to be in my thoughts and my prayers. I truly do hope you recover soon.

All the best,
Betsy

Please also accept my 'get well' wishes for this second cancer, Elfriede. I know that in Germany there is an excellent health care system and since there is already a plan in place for treating the cancer, plus you have already had the surgery, you will hopefully make a good recovery. Keep us posted about this if you would like. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Elfriede,

I am so sorry to hear of your brain cancer as well as myeloma. I am glad you were treated in the best medical centre in Germany. And I am glad you have such a good husband.

You sound like a lovely person and I wish I could sit and have a cup of coffee with you.

I imagine it is starting to get cold there in Germany. My daughter was an exchange student with a wonderful girl from Germany. The girls name was Dieke and she became a doctor! My daughter said Germany is a beautiful country - with the castles along the Rhine river and the Black Forest.

I pray God will bless you with peace and healing.

Dear Friends:

Thank you so much for all your wonderful mails, your helpful words, and your prayers.

I am so glad to have you!

We have lived in Berlin very long, but since one year now we live in northern Germany near the Baltic Sea. Here I was born.

And we have lived six years in Washington D.C. and worked for a German television network. It was the best time in my life!

The October is very warm this year. I like it, but I was three weeks in the hospital in Berlin.

Kindest regards,
Elfriede

It makes me question faith. Myeloma and now brain cancer. Why I feel so bad for you. I have nothing to say other then I feel so bad for you. I just wish you have no pain and God grants me my wish that you get better.

Hi Elfriede.

The town my daughter's friend lived in was in Northern Germany - Bloh, Germany. She flew in to Hamburg and her friend picked her up from the airport and drove her to their house in Bloh. My daughter was able to go to school with her German friend - it was the first part of July. They had a picnic for the end of school and everyone brought their own plate from home - no paper plates to pollute.

What did you do for the German television network in Washington DC? Why was that such a fun period of your life?

I have a sister who works in Washington DC, too. She is not in politics, she works in an art museum there.

Hi Joe. A book that I have read several times since diagnosis is called, "The Problem of Pain" by CS Lewis. It deals with the old questions, "Why is there so much pain in this world?" I found it helpful.

Dear Cathy:

Thank you very much for your mail.

I have lived and worked in Washington D.C. from 1999 to 2005.

It was not fun every time. 9/11, 2001 was of course a terrible time.

We liked Washington D.C. and have seen in our holidays a lot of your wonderful country. (as a German I have had 8 weeks holidays every year).

Kind Regards.

Are you feeling better?

You said your surgery helped some, but I am sure it is hard to recover from that AND the stem cell transplant.

Sending wishes for good healing.
