I just got a call from my local oncologists nurse. She told me that that they are now asking all patients taking Revlimid to take a daily 325 mg aspirin. Is this new and what is the reason?
I had gastric bypass 8 years ago and aspirin is a problem with my stomach. Anything new on this or any alternative?

Re: Revlimid and daily 325 mg aspirin?
Hi,
I was put on 325 mg aspirin a year ago, with Revlimid for prevention of blood clots. The only other options as far as I know are Coumadin-type blood thinners.
Good luck,
Eric

Taking a baby aspirin is a pretty standard recommendation for those taking Revlimid (as Eric said, to prevent blood clots). Sounds like you may need to also take an acid-blocking med if you are to take a baby aspirin?

Obviously, you should check all this out with your doc.

Re: Revlimid and daily 325 mg aspirin?
I've been taking 325 mg of aspirin while taking Revlimid during induction and now in relapse. Some type of blood thinner is recommended when taking Revlimid because of the risk of blood clots. I know people who are taking Coumadin or some of the newer blood thinners such as Xarelto. Talk with your oncologist about this and your concerns.

I have the same concerns. I just received the patient information concerning Revlimid and noticed the concerns about blood clots.
I've been taking a 81mg for some time now because of bouts with atrial fib, but because of kidney problems that is given as my limit.

Re: Revlimid and daily 325 mg aspirin?
Hi,
It's pretty important to take the baby aspirin. When my husband was first diagnosed with multiple myeloma, he was put on baby aspirin while being treated with carfilzomib [Kyprolis], Revlimid, and dex. Unfortunately, he still developed a DVT and had to give himself Lovenox injections for roughly a year afterwards. He then was able to switch back to the aspirin.
I kind of wished he stayed on the Lovenox since he's still taking Revlimid for maintenance, but the doctor felt he would be okay and, so far, no additional DVTs. We continue to be really vigilant about watching for the symptoms though, since he travels for work frequently. He has prescription compression stockings he wears to help reduce his risk of another DVT.
Lovenox was preferred over Coumadin, apparently because it leaves your system more quickly in case you ever need to have any surgical procedures, which he did (port placement.) He just skipped his shot in the morning the day of his procedure.

Am wondering if it's adequate to take baby aspirin vs the regular 325mg aspirin?

I asked my oncologist about this. He said 81 mg. is sufficient.

Re: Revlimid and daily 325 mg aspirin?
I started a therapeutic dose of Revlimid back in January at 25mg. My doc has me taking 81 mg baby aspirin daily as well. Interesting difference of opinion between 325 and 81.
