I don't know about everyone else but I suspect that music plays a big part in your lives, as it does in mine. So I wanted to start this thread for us to share music. Music that soothes, inspires and makes us upifted in our most sad or elated moments.
I would love for this thread to represent all genres.
Please share music and lyrics that you have found uplifts you or even if it is the blues when you are sad. Please share. Sometimes the lyrics may be a metaphor for what you feel but share what makes it a metaphor to you so when we listen we know.
Let's make this a thread for us to love, grow and inspire each other musically on our multiple myeloma journey. If you have a poem or words that uplift you please share your odes as well. What makes you feel good, what makes you fight, what inspires and most importantly what soothes you.
My tunes will be lyrics to myeloma, sometimes they will be metaphors but they all are odes to...beating that beast back!!!
I love this artist (GrammyAward winner) because she is classically trained but combines that training with contemporary R&B...hope you enjoy her 2. I love the percussion and piano most ..bad ass percussion!!
The title is Wait Till You SEE Me Smile...love this song.....gonna make them nasty cells know they will NOT steal my joy..the title says it all!
LET's do this!! Make this a thread to share music!!
OK.
Here is my first song.
WAIT TILL YOU SEE ME SMILE:
When the wind is blowing in your face
sometimes in life you don't see straight
(pray 2 him he will show)
when your head is in a certain place
nobody around to make you safe
(stand strong and you will grow)
Wait til you u see my smile
(Wait til they see your smile)
Don't they love to see you down
Kick u while you on the ground
(Don't let emotions show)
People always speculate
Don't let it get in your way.
See they say things they don't know
Wait till you see my smile
(Wait till they see your smile)
So you doin better now
everybody comes around but
you don't really need 'em
cause you stronger & you better
& you ready for whatever!
Sayin'
Wait till you see my smile
(Wait till they see your smile).

Re: ODES, Lyrics & MUSIC to MYELOMA
Hi Suzierose...I think that is a great idea, sharing songs and poems. Being an (really) amateur musician myself, am always humming a tune, listening while I walk, or trying to pick it out on the piano, bagpipes or vocally.
One song from choir that I found myself singing along to a lot is 'Kicking Horse River'. The lyrics are based on a poem by E. Pauline Johnson, and arranged for choral singing by Jeff Smallman. E. Pauline Johnson was a famous Canadian poet, and the Kicking Horse River is in Yoho Nat'l Park....a feisty little river flowing down steep mountain gorges to the sea.
I found it on U-TUBE, which is just a great resource for all sorts of music, help demos, etc.....Here's the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JWDtKEURt8
The choir's recording here is a little indistinct, but the song goes something like this:
"It does not care for grandeur, It does not care for state,
It flips it's little fingers in the very face of fate,
And when it's course is thwarted, current set at bay,
It just kicks up its heels, and takes another way.
It laughs among the monarchs, it giggles at the kings,
It dances in the gorges, while a comic song it sings.
It laughs among the monarchs, it giggles at the kings,
It dances in the gorges, while a comic song it sings.
And when they raise their voice, it takes another way.
(Chorus)
Flow, proud river, flow,
On, sweet water, on,
Never still, never humble,
Never mourn days that are gone.
It does not care at all for the granite of the rocks,
It never gets discouraged, for it's never in a box.
For it's never in a box."
Being a choral arrangement, there are lots of repeated phrases, and the four parts intermingle! Just a great song! We sang it in Ottawa for Canada Day in 2005, as part of a 450 voice massed choir concert. ANyways, I have found it to be inspiring.
BTW, i JUST LOved the Alicia Keys song...she has such a great voice and the lyrics are good too. tHanks so much for sharing that.

Re: ODES, Lyrics & MUSIC to MYELOMA
What an excellent idea for a discussion, Suzierose! Thanks for starting it ... and thanks for the initial contributions. I've enjoyed them, and I'm looking forward to all the contributions other make.)
My first addition to the thread is some music -- without lyrics -- that I first came across six or seven years ago. It was the accompaniment to a Youtube video popular at the time. However, I no longer can find the video, so I'm posting an mp3 file with the music.
The music is from the "Jupiter" part of Gustav Holst's symphony "The Planets". There is a version of the piece popular in England and other parts of the Commonwealth known as "I Vow To Thee, My Country."
That version, though, is not as inspiring to me as the original, which I find very moving. It's an odd musical piece in that -- to me -- it is both very touching as well as rousing. It's something I'll listen to when I want to get re-grounded and re-inspired to "forge forward."
(One side note: In general, I would recommend that people making contributions to this thread link to Youtube versions of songs whenever possible. I don't think any of us want this thread to become a repository of pirated music!)

Re: ODES, Lyrics & MUSIC to MYELOMA
This is a great discussion! Music is a very important part of my life. I always seem to latch onto a few songs that inspire me and match my mood. Since Ive been diagnosed (the last two weeks) This is one of the songs that I find myself singing to every day! I hope you enjoy it too!

It's pretty easy to understand the lyrics but here is the chorus:
"When the waves are taking you under,
hold on just a little bit longer,
He knows that this is gonna make you stronger, stronger.
The pain aint gonna last forever, and things can only get better,
He knows that this is gonna make you stronger, stronger
enjoy

I have played the song Flood a few times since my diagnosis. It is by Jars of Clay, a Christian rock band. However, they have a wide appeal to all people not just Christinas. They have a big crossover or mainstream audience. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9zsx0_F9Qs

Boris,
I appreciate your praise and support! I soo want to give positive contributions and am soo happy that you feel this is worthy!!
I love symphonic music and the next song i had planned to contribute does not have lyrics either
So thanks for starting that.
I just think your piece/link was 2 short!! I was just getting into it and it ended.
Beautiful and 2 quick.
Love the symphony.
