Re: MattSchtick's Stem Cell Transplant

Wasn't the neutropenic diet a drag? I hadn't been told about it and had stocked my refrigerator with what I though would be healthful foods to eat during the time between Cytoxan infusion and stem cell harvest. When I was discharged after my Cytoxan infusion was completed, I was given the neutropenic diet guidelines. Almost everything that I had stocked my refrigerator with was a no-no on the diet.

The day I went to have my hair shaved because it was falling out, I treated myself to lunch out. When I started reading the menu I realized that every selection on the menu had some ingredient(s) that was on the list. I ended up with a well done burger, blech, with no pickles, black pepper, lettuce, tomatoes, or cheese. Well, I learned my lesson and didn't go out to eat again until several weeks after my transplant.

I'm still pretty careful about the doneness of my meat, but now have medium rare so that there is some pink. I stay away from raw meat and fish. Last week I couldn't help myself and got some sushi with rare tuna. Huge Mistake!!!!! I won't do that again. I really miss sushi with raw fish and raw oysters.

Keep improving and thank you for your videos. I think that they probably helped a lot of people who are trying to decide whether to transplant, or not, for fear of the recovery from it. You are a stellar example of how well most of them go.

Hi Andy!!

So good to hear from you!! Day 48, wow, the time sure has flown by, Sounds like you are doing great. Your numbers are all in normal ranges, your appetite is good, you're putting on weight ... Way to go Andy!!

If I may say so, you look great with your head shaved. That being said, I am a fan of that look, but not everyone can pull it off. You are looking great!

Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing.

Wow! You look wonderful ... even without the hair. Looks like you did not lose your eyebrows, either. I'm encouraged by your recovery, as I am headed for a stem cell transplant soon. Mine will be inpatient, though.

I hope you continue to feel well, and that your remission is very long.

Great hearing from you again, Andy, and wishing you well with the 100-day test results and BMB. Glad to hear your feeling well and it looks like you made a new friend for life.

I just had my ASCT on October 20th and I'm still recuperating. I lost about 20 lbs and with my bald head I'm looking poorly; however, I do feel a bit stronger each day.

Keep us posted on your progress and thanks for the transplant diary/video. I'm sure it was helpful to many of us going through ASCT.
