Re: What does a value of 1 mean for M protein?

I have been diagnosed with MGUS since 2003. The number keeps moving. It was steady at 1.1 for three oncology visits, then 1.0, and now 1.3. I've had my blood checked every 3-4 months since 2003. They tell me that it going on this long it would be rare to develop into myeloma. I was diagnosed with Stage 3 kidney disease last year, have had unexplained weight loss for the last six months, and have hip pain now. Seeing the comment that some of these are indicative of the cancer spooked me - a little bit.

I visited my oncologist today, he scheduled a bone marrow biopsy for next week. I'm sure it'll be fine. I can empathize with all of us with this condition, it's like waiting for the other shoe to drop. Waiting, waiting, waiting. My mother died of multiple myeloma, but it's not hereditary.

My advice is don't let it consume you, though it's understandably scary. Go on with your life, be happy. Nothing may ever happen. Follow your doctor's instructions and don't panic. Prayers are good. God Bless.

I'm a 36 male and got tested in December 2017 for a urinary tract infection (UTI) and had an M-spike of 2.3 g/dL (23 g/l). Creatinine is slightly elevated. Did the urine collection and blood draw last week and I go to see the hematologist on Tuesday.

I have no outward symptoms so I'm pretty much in the same boat as most everyone else in this thread: hoping for MGUS that doesn't go anywhere and dreading multiple myeloma.

I appreciated everyone posting their stories. It has helped to read about other people in the same situation, albeit scary. I'll try to remember to come back on to post the diagnosis.
