Hi everyone,

Monday, September 1, Day +18

Things are going well. I had yesterday off from having to come in to the hospital. That was nice, I actually slept till 8 am!

Today, my WBC count is 2.46, and platelets are 176! My other numbers are rising, so on my way to recovery. Still need to gain some strength, but it's getting better each day!

My appetite is still good, my digestive system isn't quite right, but I attribute that to the effects of the vancomycin.

I may not post for a while, I'm waiting till day 30 to see what the numbers hold.

Thanks everyone.

Take care!!

Larry

This is great news Larry. Time to rest and gain strength. Vanco is a bear on the digestive system.

I know others have already said this, but I want to let you know that I also appreciate your posting about your transplant. I can see that it wasn't always easy, but it's really great to have the sort of information you've provided.

I too hope that you continue to feel better and that the transplant really did a number on your myeloma!

I will be reading the print off the pages as you type future posts. I start stem cell collection this Thursday in Tampa, FL. at Moffitt. I am overly worried we will not harvest enough for two transplants. It has been 31 months since I was last on Revlimid. I was on Velcade and Pomalyst after the Revlimid and tumors kept showing up.

I first got a plasmacytoma tumor in 2004 in my back rib. Then some radiation, and nothing for 4.5 years. Then every year or two thereafter, we'd go back and irradiate another tumor or two. In August of 2009 I was started on Revlimid and stayed on it for two and a half years.

I was turned down for SCT two years ago because they said my disease progression was not easily trackable in my blood work, and other than getting plasmacytomas, all else was normal.
In the last year my myeloma cells went fom less than 5% in my marrow to 50%. I completed two rounds of DCEP, which knocked the cancer burden back by 90%. It also landed my in the hospital after each round with neutropenic fever.

I am set to get melphalan on November 1, 2014 and Day Zero is November 3. That is, if the collection goes as planned. They say they will proceed if they only get two million stem cells. My body weight is 180 lbs. What is the accepted amount needed for a 58 year old male with my weight?

AND, should I allow them to proceed, or try for a reharvesting a couple of weeks later until we get enough stem cells?

I will be wishing your process goes well, and will be following you every day. Best to you and your family throughout this.
