Diagnosed multiple Myeloma in 2009.
Done Autologous Bone Marrow Transplantation in 2010.
Now since 3 months, my lab tests are not up to the mark and protein level is increasing
day by day. Yesterday the protein level was 10.5 and others like wbc...rbc...hg...are also low.
However, the doctor advised to start immediately 4 cycle of Velcade injection.
Once the protein level in range, they will do re transplant.
It's an introduction about me.

Re: I am old patient of Multiple Myeloma
Hi Naseem,
Thanks for introducing yourself.
Sorry to hear that your myeloma seems to be recurring.
What treatment did you have before your first transplant? Did it also include Velcade?
Also, will you be getting dexamethasone or some other steroid with your Velcade when you start treatment with it? I think it's relatively standard for Velcade to be given together with a steroid like dex.
I hope you respond well to the new treatment.

Re: I am old patient of Multiple Myeloma
Hi TerryH,
Sorry for late reply.
Within 2-3 days, my Doctor will start Velcade with following protocol:
1. Velcade Injection 2.5 mg – Qty: 4 [to be on weekly from the day one].
2. Dexamethasone Injection 20 mg – Qty: 4 [on daily from the day one].
3. Cyclophosphamide Tab 300 mg – Qty: 4 [on weekly from the day one].
My 1st BMT was done in 2010.

Naseem Sheikh

Re: I am old patient of Multiple Myeloma
The combination of Velcade, Cytoxan, and dex, sometimes called VCD or cybord, that you'll be getting is a relatively common combination. The dose of dex seems high compared to what is normal. Are you sure you'll be getting it every day, and also by injection, rather than by tablet?
It sounds like you'll be getting the same treatment every week that you are on therapy, with no weeks off of therapy. Is that correct?
If so, when you say "quantity 4", I assume you mean 4 cycles, with each cycle being 3 or 4 weeks long. Is that correct?
Finally, I don't believe you've mentioned yet what treatment you were given before your transplant. Was it perhaps thalidomide or Revlimid, combined with dexamethasone?
And sorry to ask another question, but, when you say your protein level was 10, what units are you using? g/L or g/dL? The units are different in different countries. See this series of posting for a discussion on the subject:

In any case, I hope the treatment goes really well for you.
