I have just realized Canada uses a different measuring system for the M spike. We use grams per liter and the US uses grams per deciliter I think.
Due to chemo brain I would like to get some advice on how to interpret American responses in relation to Canadian standards. It seems straight forward as a deciliter is one hundredth (edit
: it is actually one tenth) of a liter.
A spike of 1 in Canada would be a spike of .1 the USA? This is for comparison only as these levels may not be testable in a real world lab for all I know..
Its tough enough to have two measuring systems, I grew up in the Imperial system with different gallons over the border in the States, now I find out we have two standards within the medical metric world standards!!

A deciliter is one tenth of a liter, not one hundredth.
To convert from the Canadian measure in g/L, divide by 10 to get the US equivalent in g/dL.
To convert from the US measure in g/dL, multiply by 10 to get the Canadian equivalent in g/L. Your example of 1 g/L Canadian equaling .1 g/dL US is correct.

Re: Understanding Mspike's different measuring system in Can
Thanks Kevin. I'm embarassed that I blew the conversion of my countrie's chosen system of measurement. Luckly, I have chemo brain to blame it on. Multiple Myeloma Canada charts both in their literature. It is a bit confusing as most of us today jump on the internet for research.
Interestingly, my definition of deciliter came from an online conversion site that got it wrong.
I see you just passed 1 year since you got the news. I got the unofficial news in Feb. 2011 and the official diagnosis, required a biopsy in March.

Yep, just had the one year cancerversary.
Coincidentally, it was also almost one year to the day that I received the news I'm in sCR, so while the one year anniversary could have been a bit of a downer, we had some good news to compensate and my wife and I celebrated with a nice evening out together.
