I am 3 years post transplant with a kappa light chain diagnosis. Lately I've noticed that I'm bruising easily. I've heard this is common with multiple myeloma. Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks!

Re: Frequent bruises / easy bruising
I bruise extremely easy, but I also rarely have platelets above 100. I don't know if it is something specific to multiple myeloma or to the accompanying anemia?

Re: Frequent bruises / easy bruising
I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in June 2013. I have started bruising very easily for the past 3 or 4 months, Now I swear I don't do anything but get out of bed and I have a new bruise. Most of my bruising is on both of my arms, with the random bruise on my upper thighs, from time to time. My doc tells me it is from my low white counts, courtesy of the Revlimid and dexamethasone.

I'm the same Tropic Diver ... mostly on my arms, for no apparent reason.
I'm not anemic, Wayne, but they occur for some reason.

Re: Frequent bruises / easy bruising
I was diagnosed with chromosome 17P deletion multiple myeloma in January of 2013. Had a bone marrow transplant in June. My platelets and WBC are within normal ranges, yet bruises "appear" mysteriously on my arms and legs. My RBC is below average ranges – is that why I bruise? No one seems to know.

I also am subject to frequent bruising for no apparent reason. Most of them are on my hands and arms, but also occasionally on my legs. My white cell and platelet counts are normal.
My diagnosis is that it is a combination of the dex that I've been taking, 20 mg once a week, the aspirin to prevent blood clots from taking Revlimid, and the multiple myeloma. The bruising doesn't concern me since they are usually fairly small and not painful. It takes them a few days to a few weeks to resolve.

Re: Frequent bruises / easy bruising
Hi I'm with you guys. More small bruises and red spots that occasionally reach the skin surface and actually become somewhat like sores that crust over and then disappear ?
I was seeing a dermatologist for another problem and asked about the small bruises on my arms. His brilliant explanation was that "Those are injuries." My response was "I'll be darned, that's brilliant. I'd never have thought of that."
Needless to say, Dr. Seuss couldn't figure out the cause of my rash either, which I finally figured out on my own by eliminating foods from my diet one at a time. When I got to potatoes, my rash went away. It turns out l am not tolerant of plants in the nightshade family to some degree or another. (Nightshades: potatoes, tomatoes, all peppers, particularly spicy ones, eggplant. etc.)

Re: Frequent bruises / easy bruising
I want to point out that I'm not on any treatment and haven't been since my April 2010 stem cell transplant.
I also have very thin skin, now and not as a norm, and I have to be careful around my dogs who can tear my skin much easier than they should be able too. I don't know if this part of the same changes that account for the bruising however?

Re: Frequent bruises / easy bruising
I also bruise all the time. I'll look down at my hands and have a bruise on a finger, even though I don't remember banging it. I've always banged my knees, so it doesn't surprise me to find bruises there – just larger than I had pre-myeloma. I haven't been on any meds for a year, and my platelet counts are in the normal range, but I still take baby aspirin, which is probably making it easier for me to bruise.
