I also had problems with food for quite a long time. None of the anti-nausea meds worked for me. I refused Ativan because I had nightmare-like hallucinations with it.
In the hospital, I was able to tolerate water, tea, plain yogurt, and broth. When I got home, I found that I could usually tolerate watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew melon. Gradually I was able to add foods over the next few months. But, I still had periods of nausea. Unfortunately, sugary things were the first foods that I could tolerate easily.
I had lined trash cans in every room so that I could access something to vomit in quickly when I couldn't make it to the bathroom fast enough. My sister, who was staying with me for 6 weeks, told me that I was the quietest vomiter that she had ever met. It didn't bother me because I felt so much better after each time.
I think that by about 6 months I was able to eat most things again without too much difficulty. There are still a few things that I can't tolerate, or even imagine eating, e.g. oranges, pesto, basil. Occasionally I'll have something and know right away that it isn't going to sit well with me. I am 5 years post transplant at this point.
