Lucia,
May I ask how your brother is doing? His severe back pain, requiring emergency transport to the hospital, is so very similar to my husbands story. Know that many people on this forum are pulling for him.

Re: New here - 39-year-old brother diagnosed yesterday
My husband, 47, was diagnosed in May. I know all too well what you are going through. He, too, had a lot of back pain. He is doing well with the pain now. He takes morphine 2xs per day. We was taking 30 MG and now trying to do 15 mg.
We just learned that there may be permanent damage to his back. He can walk and do some lifting. He rides his bike. But, he is not like he was - very handy physical guy. We are going to see an orthopedic specialist to get his opinion on state of the back. My husband had back pain for about a year before he was diagnosed with myeloma.
Other advice - I am glad you are tuned in already to wonderful resources like the Beacon. There is so much scary stuff out there, though. It may not be up-to-date. Just since May, my husband is so much better - actually was Stage III and after 2 cycles of chemo (Rev, Velcade, dex) is in complete remission.
I find there is a lot of hope for this disease.
