Thanks Nancy. Real good to know. We just got back from an intense (re up hill) 5 mile hike and it was a bit tough for her to get a deep breath because of the pain in the chest area.
We see the Doc on Wednesday to review the reults of her bone marrow biospsy.
We are going to push real hard for an MRI of the area.
Please tell us what therapy ypu went through.
Thanks

Re: Bone Pain And Smoldering Myeloma
Hi Dan....My therapy to date happened in 2009/10. I am writing it up for the Beacon and my first 3 columns describing it all are on the site here. In a nutshell, though, after my diagnosis, which I didn't get until after several vertebrae were fractured, I was put on, firstly, bisphosphonate therapy (Aredia). This is 'bone building' medication which I am still taking now, although not as frequently as initially.
Then I was on induction therapy (Velcade plus Dex), then an autologous stem cell transplant, and finally, 12 months of maintenance chemo (Revlimid). I was treated very thoroughly and have been 'inactive' for more than two years now.
Because this all happened three years ago, and with the fast changing pace of myeloma therapies, some of it would probably be done differently now. For example, Revlimid was not yet available to patients where I live when I started my treatments. The rib pain did disappear with all of this, and a LOT of other problems too! Hope that helps, and best wishes to you both.

Yes, Nancy,
After I relapsed, it was with a rib fracture, as soon as I went on rev/dex and back to monthly aredia, I had no rib pain since . And the rib fracture has healed.

Hi Christina, Thanks for sharing about your rib fracture and the treatment. I certainly learn from those more experienced in handling this illness. Hope you are over the relapse now too.

Re: Bone Pain And Smoldering Myeloma
I have been having Rib pain again ever since this thread started. ?? Crazy, Is it psychological like i said in my earlier post? I've had several xrays and an MRI and CT just a few weeks ago. I dont know what to think. Prior to a couple of days ago it was several weeks since i had any pain. But, today (now) it seems stronger than ever.

Re: Bone Pain And Smoldering Myeloma
Art ,
My diagnosis came after I entered the hosptial via the ED for a collapsed vertebrae that was caused by a plasmcytoma. I had some paralysis in my left leg and had been in severe pain off and on for over a year. The week leading up to it was intense. Two surgury and 10 days later I was released from the hospital. Believe me, don't just think it's psycological. If you feel somethings wrong pursue the answer. You know your body and we only have one, so lets keep it as healthy and pain free as we can..
Now I'm off for a bike ride (as in cycling) and going to enjoy everyday to the fullest.

Re: Bone Pain And Smoldering Myeloma
I agree with mso, Art. Of course one can have 'sympathy' pains when reading of someone else's problems, but pain seems pretty indicative of a health problem if it persists. I wish I had paid more attention to my symptoms, although in the end I got over most of my bone issues. I am back to a quite normal life for my age!

Re: Bone Pain And Smoldering Myeloma
I did receive some not so great news today. I have 2 lytic lesions in my right rib cage. I guess I could say I at least now know what's causing the pain and move forward. I meet with my Doc on Wednesday to review this and the BMB. More to be revealed.
And remember, listen to your body, not your brain!

Thanks Everyone
I say i wonder if its psychological because I have had quite a bit of imaging done. Most recently i had a CT of abdomen and an MRI of Chest, Spine and Pelvis. Along with some additional xrays of my ribs.
Thanks for your advice

The above was written by MSO on my computer. ( That's why it showed
Anonymous) We just signed the Revlimid forms so I guess that will be part of the treatment.
We will push hard for a full body MRI to find any additional hot spots when we see the doc in person on Wednesday.
