Bone marrow biopsy recovery
I have a question about resuming activities following a bone marrow biopsy. How do you feel the next day? I am scheduled to have one the day before I'm supposed to have a triple service orchestra day, so 6 hours of playing the violin. Not sure I'll be in good enough shape for it.

Re: Bone marrow biopsy recovery
Had it done two times. The first time by an unexperienced doctor. The next time by a very experienced medical student who was on a team doing nothing but bone marrow biopsies. 6 hours playing the violin sounds a bit rough. But, except from a bit of soreness the first time, I did not have any problems.
The medical student told me that you have to wait for 30 minutes with pressure on the area where the bone marrow biopsy is done to avoid pain following the procedure. But no two persons are the same.
Good luck
Lev

Re: Bone marrow biopsy recovery
I had my 4th BMB last Thursday. Feels okay afterwards, just feels very bruised for a while, but didn't stop me doing anything I wanted to do.
I guess if you're sitting in a hard chair for long periods the next day it might be uncomfortable.
Good luck!

Re: Bone marrow biopsy recovery
I've had 2 and never any problems as far as how I felt. It is sore at the site, which is high on the hip.
I think it would depend on how you sit, what you sit on, and your tolerance to discomfort. I would assume that if you sit in a way to keep pressure on the site, it will be a distraction. Of course, meds can dull the soreness.

Re: Bone marrow biopsy recovery
I had my bone morrow biopsy and had no problems with the procedure and very little pain except for about 3 seconds, which the doc helped me thru by counting the seconds loudly. Afterwards, though, I was very sore on my bottom if I sat for very long. I am quite thin though so I don't have a lot of meat there. You may be ok if you are not uncomfortable on hard chairs but, if you are thin, I would guess 6 hours on a hard chair you may have problems when you try to get up. I did a lot of lying on my side for one week after the biopsy.
Best of luck to you.

Re: Bone marrow biopsy recovery
My husband has his bone marrow biopsy in January, 2014. The procedure went well, and he neither complained during the procedure or afterwords. His discomfort was minimal. He certainly fared better than I would have.
Re: Bone marrow biopsy recovery
I had one done where they smacked the needle in and one time they used a drill. Both times they just used a local. The first I was sore for a couple days. The one with the drill was duck soup and no soreness at all. Just depends!

You'll feel like you got kicked by a horse but it won't stop you from playing the violin. And maybe I am exaggerating a little about the horse. It's not so bad. I've had several.

Re: Bone marrow biopsy recovery
Had one BMB. Little sore after, but nothing that required any pain killers. Wound was a little weepy for a few days, so make sure you have sufficient dressing covering it if you're in a chair for six hours. I had a 4-hour train journey the day after mine and was absolutely fine.
Good luck with the concert.

I don't think it will be a problem for you. I've had two BMB and I am pretty thin and I did not experience any discomfort the next day.
