Your experience with IVIG?

by hopeful27 on Mon Jul 06, 2015 9:56 pm

My mom is soon to start IVIG after having pneumonia and another sickness right after. Has anyone on here had these and for how long? Did they help your immune system? Did you have side effects after the treatments?

Thanks.

Dear Hopeful,

I was on Intragram (IVIG) for a little over 12 months. I was given two infusions a week apart initially, then every four weeks thereafter. I personally had only a renewed energy and felt better after each infusion.

The worst part about it is that it takes about 4 - 5 hours to infuse. I always had them infusing at the fastest rate they would allow. A few times this gave me a headache. If your mum feels headachy, then they can slow it down.

The reason I was on Intragram was due to my history of infections (pneumonia, shingles, belly bugs). Apart from an infection from my SCT, at which time I missed a dose. I was very well whilst on it.

I think your mum can only benefit from IVIG.

All the best,

Vic.
