Wow, never expected this

by kjpoppit on Wed Jan 08, 2014 2:45 am

I sure never expected to be diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Who did? I don't imagine anyone did but here we are. I am 47 and just learned in September 2013 I have multiple myeloma. I started treatment in November with CyBorD and expect to be going to Seattle in a month or so for a stem cell transplant. I will be doing tandem transplants because I have high risk myeloma.

I live in Alaska and will need to travel to Seattle for the transplant. This does make treatment a bit more of a challenge. I have a supportive husband and three kids of my own who are mostly grown and three young step children.

I love the outdoors and fishing. Big salmon here and awesome trout fishing.

I am loving this web site. It has helped me so much to understand what is happening and to make informed decisions with my treatment. My outlook on this whole mess is what can you do but do what you need to do. Fight to live and enjoy life.

I can relate to never expecting multiple myeloma. Heck, I had never even heard of it.

I hope all goes well for you. I had my first transplant May 1,2012. In my opinion, the transplant was worth it so if that is the way you need to go then do it.

Cancers of all types run heavy in my father's family so I always suspected some type of cancer, but I did not expect it so soon. I got it at age 60.

I as well as you will deal with it and go on as we must. Keep up your courage and do what the doctors tell you and you should be fine.
