Hi My Husband Eric has just finished round 2 of treatment with very few nasty side effects again but his leg pain is getting worse and he is now complaining about back pain for the first time.
The doctors say that they are delighted to the way he is responding and hope that by the end of round 4 his leg pain should have gone. Is it normal for it to get worse during treatment before it gets better?
Eric is being treated with Velcade + cyclophosphamide + dexamethasone (CyBorD).
Thanks Sharon.

Re: Worsened leg + back pain during treatment
Hi,
My pain was so bad in the beginning that after just 3 weeks of Revlimid/dec/and Velcade. They decided to radiation. After the third day of radiation I could honestly say I felt 50% better by the end of it (had 12 days) I was 95% pain free and have been so since July of 2012. Still on Revlimid/dec .

Re: Worsened leg + back pain during treatment
Is your husband also getting Zometa or Aredia infusions for his bones? Does he have any bone lesions? What, if any, scans has he had done - skeletal x-rays, MRI, CT/PET?
I know when I had a fracture of my arm due to bone lesions and started treatment with Rev/Dex and Zometa infusions the pain began to decrease within a month. I responded very quickly to the treatment and my numbers dropped significantly within the first month of treatment. How is your husband responding to treatment? Do you know what his blood test numbers were and now are? Has he been checked for blood clots in his leg?
When I restarted treatment with Rev/Dex last year, i also had significant lower leg pain at the time. When I reported the continuing pain at my next month's doctor appointment he then sent me to see the radiation oncologist. That definitely helped with the pain altthough when I over do things I get it back again, but not as severe and it does go away.
I hope that your husband's pain gets addressed successfully soon,
Nancy in Phila

Re: Worsened leg + back pain during treatment
Thanks Karen and Nancy.
He had an exray of the neck/Jaw area and they found one lesion and when they did his spine and pelvis they found none. However when he went to the hemo specialist for treatment, she was in the opinion that he would have them but they have not shown up. It is very difficult to understand everything as we don't speak enough Bulgarian and she has basic English. All I know is that after round 1 they were delighted with the results. We will get to know what happened with round 2 on the 20th.
I will ask he he is on the meds for bones when I next go with him.
I hope you continue to be mainly pain free and hope that Eric will be soon.
Thanks again
Sharon.
