After you have your port put in, can you work (desk job) and drive while getting ready for the actual transplant?
Can my husband drive himself to get the injections, if need be, even with the port, if it is just for an injection?

Re: Working and driving after port put in?
Can't speak for anyone else but, other than finding it to be an annoyance, my CVC in no way impacted me with respect to working, driving, ... I even ran a 5K with it in place the week before going in the hospital for my transplant. What I hated the most about the CVC was that it made taking a shower a pain! To address the latter, I purchased waterproof patches ("LiquaShield"). They were a godsend - a far superior solution to the plastic wrap-based coverups supplied to me at MD Anderson during my stem cell transplant there. Strongly recommend them.
Good luck!
Good luck!

I think I finally found something Amazon doesn't carry. Where did you locate the LiquaShield patches?
Edit: I did find the patches on Amazon. Thanks for the tip.

When looking on Amazon, please be aware that there is a line of iPad covers called LiquaShield as well - obviously not the same! If it helps, you can order directly from the manufacturer. What I used were their 7"x10" patches - they're made with central lines/PICC lines in mind:

Hope this helps!

About how long does the port have to stay in? I guess it may depend on the patient and how well you progress.

Re: Working and driving after port put in?
I just ordered the patches for my husband. His port is going in mid-May in preparation for transplant. He is awed by the 5K - he is walking 30-40 minutes a day, which feels like a major accomplishment. Thanks for the great suggestion!
