Winter Weather

by Kansas on Tue Feb 01, 2011 8:56 pm

Another fine Kansas winter - snow, wind, cold, wind chills ..I'm thinking right now Florida or Hawaii sounds pretty good!! Hear Chicago and points further east and northeast are expected to get more than we have. Even the dog wants to move! Take care all of you in this storm's path. Rex and Kay

Huge amounts of ice here in the U.S. Northeast. Lots of trees down and power outages as a result. Not fun.

I've never really minded winter that much. Actually, I kind of like it. Snow can make a landscape look absolutely stunning. But this year's winter has pushed even my tolerance for the cold and white stuff!

I was on my way to the airport to get to my 2yr check up (Vanderbilt)- Only to get the message that the flight had been cancelled! We probably had a total 12-16 inches ..... The roads were a bit messy - but nothing like Kansas or Chicago. I absolutely love the winter, the snow. It is peaceful and soothing for me. I get out and walk the dogs in the snow - total heaven. It can wreck havic on transportation/airport systems. I was able to reschedule my appointment for March. Maybe the snow will have subsided.

Interesting, Mary, that you should describe winter and snow as "peaceful and soothing". My wife, who grew up in an area where snow was not that common, once mentioned how snow seems to make everything more peaceful. She pointed out, in particular, how snow absorbs a lot of noise, literally making the outdoors more quiet. I suspect that all the white on the landscape also makes it come across as more "peaceful and soothing", even before you add in the dampening of noise.

I can understand how people in warmer climates prefer year-round "better" weather. Yet I still like the chance to have snow for at least part of the year.

Happy to report it's already 60 degrees here in Kansas today - had some beautiful days last week -- guess a cold front is coming in tonight - so will enjoy today. I totally agree that snow can be beautiful and calming -- until one has to shovel their way out!!! Stay safe everyone!
