Will treatment reduce pain & improve mobility?

by Helen_ms on Sun Aug 06, 2017 6:32 pm

I have had neurological effects for some time. I am from the country, so I have not had treatment yet.

My problems are I have searing pain that started in my feet and hands. These pains now also appear on my face, mainly around my lips. What is most disabling is my arms and legs are so weak that I sort of stagger and lurch from step to step. It scares my dog! It scares me. The rate of change suggests that I might not be able to walk.

What I would like to know does this go away when I get treatment?

I have all the other symptoms: feeling tired, head ache, gut problems, erratic blood pressure, and so on.

I would really like some info if possible. Thank you.

Just to be clear, you have been diagnosed with myeloma?

If so, have you had an MRI of your spine or skeletal survey via x-ray?

Have you been referred to a specialist?

If you have been diagnosed with myeloma and these symptoms are a result of the myeloma, it is likely that you may have some improvement with treatment. But, the lurching and unsteadiness could be a sign of some neurological problem from the myeloma. What kind of tests have you had done so far and what were the results? Were you diagnosed by a GP, general oncologist, or a myeloma specialist?

If you have myeloma, I would suggest that you see a myeloma specialist for treatment. It sounds like you have a lot of things going on already that would best be followed by an oncologist who only treats people with myeloma. A specialist will work with a local oncologist to guide the treatment that is prescribed.

All the best,
