Re: Whole-body MRI - where can I get it done?
I believe that Medical College of Virginia in Richmond does them. University of Virginia Hospital I would guess, and I know Duke does and it is only 2 hour drive from Richmond or from DC.

Re: Whole-body MRI - where can I get it done?
Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried Arlington Hospital and MCV and UVa (I live near Charlottesville). Seems many places offer full body PET or CT, but not MRI.
I will look into Duke.

Try Pro Scan Imaging In Cincinnati, Ohio. The full body MRI is $1,890 self pay.

Re: Whole-body MRI - where can I get it done?
In my my quest to find a place that does whole-body MRIs, I've now given up completely on finding any facilities in Colorado that can do one. So, I am going to instead get one done in California the next time I swing through that state. For those of you that are lucky enough to have easy access to whole body MRIs, would you mind digging up your records and telling me what CPT code they used for the procedure? Thanks in advance!

Do you anticipate that insurance will cover it? When I asked my doctor about it, he said most will not.

Re: Whole-body MRI - where can I get it done?
Hey Andrew,
Good to hear from you.
My oncologist has been successful in getting me approved for 3 PET/CT scans over the years (one for initial diagnosis purposes and two for routine screening). It hadn't occurred to me that a whole body MRI would be more difficult to get approved than a PET/CT since I assumed that their costs would be somewhat similar (as I recall, a PET/CT retails for $2500+). But then again, I'm with a new insurance carrier this year and I really don't know what a whole-body MRI costs, so who knows?
In any case, I will find out soon enough since my oncologist just sent over an order to a radiology group in California that has their MRI machines set up with the protocol to handle whole-body scans.

Re: Whole-body MRI - where can I get it done?
Interestingly, I have had three PET/CT scans, the last two for surveillance. I was due for one next week, but my carrier has apparently changed its policy and would not cover it in the absence of indications of disease progression.

Re: Whole-body MRI - where can I get it done?
With me, I had shown a slow elevation in my serum free light chain (sFLC) test results, so when my oncologist ordered a PET scan and bone marrow biopsy, they were approved by the insurance company. If I had not shown a increase in the free light chain results, I doubt they would have been approved.

Re: Whole-body MRI - where can I get it done?
I'm being monitored annually with whole body MRI (have had one and due for another in January) and Medicare covered it. I did not have disease progression at the time, and don't now. PET was not informative in my case, so my specialist went the route of whole-body MRI, which showed lesions PET didn't pick up. Not sure if that's relevant in the coverage, or if Medicare is just easier in this regard.
Unfortunately, I don't have the code, Multibilly.
