Which insurance - Humana or United Healthcare?
My insurance (Assurant) is going out of business at the end of the month. Now I need to choose something else. My doctor is a provider in Humana and United Healthcare. Any experience with these to help me make a choice? I will be receiving autologous stem cell transplant in January.

Debbie,
Can I assume you will be going on some Obamacare (ACA) plan? You might want to google "UnitedHealthCare Obamacare" since they are considering pulling out of the ACA exchanges next year.

I was on Humana for my stem cell transplant and they were wonderful – cannot say enough about them, never had any payment problems whatsoever. They would call and remind you your medicine was due for renewal.
I had United Health Care prior to Humana, but had no real health issues at that time, so I don't know how they would be handling multiple myeloma.
I was more or less forced back to United Health in 2016 because Humana raised their out of pocket by $1200 and United Health stayed the same at $4500. They both are about the same as far as cost of medications. I highly recommend both, but Humana's out of pocket is quite high now.

Re: Which insurance - Humana or United Healthcare?
I had Humana PPO for my transplants and I couldn't have been happier. There were a few billing concerns that always worked out. If doctors don't bill 'In Network' to their contract or bill specifically to the transplant area 'in paper', there can be issues that need to be worked out. I also don't think their 'In Network Physician Finder List' is very complete. I honestly believe they don't like to list some of the top oncologists in their list in hopes of discouraging myeloma patients from enrolling in their plans (I can't really blame them there).
The most frustrating part of Humana is they only offer one number on the back of your insurance card for everything. Calling back and discussing a topic with the same individual is impossible.
I picked up an individual Humana PPO this year with a $6450 deductible. I exceeded that deductible within the first week in January.
