I had tandem transplants under Dr. Barlogie at UAMS in 2014 -2015. I traveled from South Carolna and it was hard but no doubt worth it. I had to be admitted because my caregiver was unable to make it during my first transplant.
After Dr. Barlogie left UAMS, I still went to Little Rock where the facility is like no other when it comes to myeloma. You get your test results back very fast and you know exactly what to expect. I, however, decided to travel to New York for my follow-up visits. I will say that Mt. Sinai is a decent facility but nothing like Little Rock. However, I'm young and long-term survivors I've met all see Dr. Barlogie or Dr. Jaggernath.
If you go to Mt. Sinai, I would request inpatient. The flights were cheaper for me than going to Little Rock.
Dr.Barlogie changed my maintenance to a new treatment that not many people are on. I just trust him! Ultimately it's the specialist that I see and not the facility, but it does help to have a great one. If you do go to Little Rock, Dr. Van Rhee is the guy to see.

If he travels, I would only recommend either NY or Little Rock. I will admit that after Dr. Barlogie retires I plan on returning to Little Rock.

Re: Where should we go?
We would like to know where we can go in New York to stay if we decide to go there. Does anyone know where the most reasonable places to go that is by Mt. Sinai hospital?
