Dear Beacon forum members and visitors:
Can anyone help me when the words "multiple myeloma" and "MGUS" were coined and or first used by medical professionals?
How old is the use of M-spike and serum free light chain as parameters for this disease?
Thank you.

Re: When were "multiple myeloma" and "MGUS" first coined?
Just went to Pub Med, searched "myeloma", and went to the very first listed publication. This is from the Journal of the Boston Society of Medical Sciences. This article states "The affection was first recognized and described as a definite pathological condition in I873 by J. von Rustizky, who gave it the name of multiple myeloma."
That statement is referenced to: Deutsch. Zeitschrift f. Chirurg., I873, Bd. 3, S. I62.
That's all I got for now.

Thank you MikeF. I tried but could not find it.
If you find anything on M spike and FLC use as parameters for multiple myeloma and MGUS, please let me know when medical practitioners started using these two for the first time.
Thanks again.
