When is the best time of day to take Revlimid?

by Ron M on Sun Feb 28, 2016 4:30 pm

I am new to the Beacon and have just a few more days left in my first cycle of Revlimid. Before I start the next cycle, I would like to know when others take their capsule and why. For this first round, I take it at noon. I don't really know what to expect but I am sure others have some good advice.

I take mine at around 10pm because it usually makes me feel a little sleepy.

I take mine in the morning before I eat breakfast. I tried it at bedtime for a little while, but it kept me awake.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

First, as with any advice you receive, please validate with your myeloma specialist.

My suggestion would be to take it at night if it makes you a bit tired. Otherwise, take it in the morning if it keeps you awake.

I started out taking it at night because it made me sleepy. Then after my transplant, it switched to keeping me awake, so now I take it in the morning.

As before, I take it with my curcumin divided dose.

Best! BN

Hello:

I used to take it in the morning at seven. However, since the ninth cycle, I have been taking it in the evening at seven. It helps me to be better during day time at work.

I take my weekly dexamethasone at same time, at seven in the evening.

Thank you.

I take mine in the morning, right before I go to work. I don't get any sleepiness from it, so that works well for me.

As with most things involved with myeloma, "your mileage may vary".

I don't think it matters when you take Revlimid, although I take mine at night, since it causes drowsiness for me.

I wanted to add, though, that I take a low-dose aspirin tablet with it in order to try to prevent blood clots. Revlimid can induce clots. So, best to check with your doctor about what sort of anticoagulant drug to take along with Revlimid.

Hi Ron,

Glad you're getting a lot of replies to your question. You can also find additional comments in these earlier forum discussions, which are on a similar topic as the one you've asked about:

"Revlimid - when do you take it?" (started Jan 14, 2015)
"When to take Revlimid?" (started Aug 7, 2013)

Hope you can find a time to take the Revlimid that works well for you.

I take my daily dose, 25 mg, around dinner time each day. No side effects involved, just a consistent time of day so that I do not forget.

I was just looking at the Revlimid website and it says "Revlimid is an oral medication taken once daily at about the same time each day, with or without food".

I had read another document sometime in the past (I can't remember where now) that said I should take it at least 1 hour after eating. Apparently this information is wrong according to the Revlimid website:

http://www.Revlimid.com/mds-patient/about-revlimid/how-do-i-take-revlimid/

I'm just curious ... was anyone else under the mistaken idea that Revlimid should not be taken with food?
