Specifically which test result do I look at to see the M spike value? I have seen it mentioned on a few test results, but never mentioning which test it comes from. Seems like a silly question, but most seem to know all about them and I don't.
Thanks, Jo Anne

Re: What test lists the M-spike?
This is a common issue for patients trying to figure out their labs for the first time. The M-spike shows up on the serum protein electrophoresis (SPEP) test. But instead of being called "M-spike," it might be called an abnormal band, abnormal protein band, M-protein, paraprotein, monoclonal protein, or something else like that. It also might be listed in a separate notation on the SPEP report.

Re: What test lists the M-spike?
Okay, thanks.
I found the Abnormal Band 1 in January was 2.7 and last week it was 0.3, so he is getting better, right?

Re: What test lists the M-spike?
I assume that the units of measure for the M-spike were g/dL? Regardless, that's a huge improvement in the M-spike. You also want to see what the serum kappa and lambda free light chain values have done between diagnosis and now, but it sounds like he is responding extremely well to the Velcade-dexamethasone treatment.
