What happened when you relapsed?

by lys2012 on Tue Oct 16, 2012 10:28 am

I am enjoying being in remission since shortly after my transplant in June2010, so almost 2.5 years! I am also enjoying being free of medications (not taking maintenence or anything).

I find myself still worrying about my future with this disease.

Any strange symptom that shows up I think is this a relapse? my counts are pretty good, but my hemoglobin borders on low normal and will drop for a few months then come back to 122.

M spike is trace protein on testing, but my doctor says it is "too low to measure".

For anyone who has relapsed, did you get sick again gradually so that you did not realize you were in a relapse? Or was it a sudden relapse, that led you to feel all the myeloma symptoms you had felt at diagnosis?

I know this is a variable course disease, but just looking for some general insight.

part of what makes this disease hard is just that you don't know what to expect!

thanks for any replies

It came gradually after 2.5 years, but every thing is under control after 4 Revlimid 10 mg Cycle.
So dont wary.
Wishing You the best.

For my mother it happened very suddenly, We took SPEP in may 2012, M-Protein is Nil,
We took SPEP again in July 2012,M-Protein is 1.3.. We are shocked!!
Her Initial theraphy was 6 cycles of Revlimid, In the end of it, we found CR ie M-Protein - Nil. But She was ineligible for HSCT, so she continued conventional maintainence theraphy, but relapsed within 8 months with no symptoms

With me it came on very quickly with a lot of bone pain. At the moment we're just trying to stabilize things and get those levels back down.
