What does "remission" mean in multiple myeloma?

by Gf3577 on Fri May 15, 2015 7:18 pm

Hi all. I'm new to this forum. I hope someone can answer this question.

I have been treated with RVD [Revlimid, Velcade, and dexamethasone] since August of 2014 and have had a stem cell transplant in December. I recently had a bone marrow biopsy, and my MD said that he would say that I'm in remission, even though I "still have some myeloma."

I am not sure what this means. I have been unable to have the last of the RVD treatments because my platelets have not come up since the transplant. They are still at 37. How can I be in remission when I still have some myeloma?

Although I am grateful for this diagnosis, I'm still a little confused. Thanks for your help!
