Questions and discussion about smoldering myeloma (i.e., diagnosis, risk of progression, potential treatment, etc.)

What constitutes an "abnormal MRI"?

by jhorner on Tue Jun 16, 2015 1:48 pm

Hello,

I just finally read the new study that highlights predictability of progression for smoldering patients and I was wondering what constitutes an abnormal MRI or an MRI with diffuse abnormalities.

I just had my first imaging in two years, a pelvic MRI, and here are the results:

Findings: Marrow signal is diffusely heterogeneous, in a pattern that
can represent mildly exaggerated hematopoietic bone marrow pattern
with the regions of mildly decreased T1 marrow signal appearing
brighter then normal muscle on T1-weighted sequences.

Is this "abnormal" or "normal"? I tried to google this but was not able to find anything that would provide clarification with any certainty. If you have had an MRI with similar findings and can help me determine if this is a risk factor, I'd appreciate it!

Best
