Welcome

Welcome to the Burgundy Café!

We've been hearing for quite a while now that The Myeloma Beacon should offer more ways for multiple myeloma patients to connect and get to know each other better.

This new forum is a first step in that direction.

The forums at The Myeloma Beacon have always been a great way for myeloma patients and caregivers to learn more about multiple myeloma, myeloma treatments, and other issues related to the disease.

Now, though, this new forum -- The Burgundy Café -- offers a way for members of our community to discuss topics that are not myeloma related.

We know that myeloma patients, caregivers, and family members have interests outside of multiple myeloma. We often hear, in fact, that the best way to stay "sane" as a myeloma patient is to maintain a healthy balance between caring about one's disease and caring about other things.

The Café, then, is the Beacon's way of encouraging such balance while strengthening the ties within our community.

We look forward to the conversations to come, and we hope many of you will be long-time regulars here in the Café.

Great idea! It will be interesting to see what sorts of topics are the most popular. Will it be sports? Travel? Entertainment?

Or will it be the two topics that can lead to REALLY heated discussions: politics and religion?

As I said, this is gonna be interesting to say the least! :)

I commend the Beacon for opening up with another way to communicate...it truly will be interesting to see where this goes. Speaking only for us, when we come here our focus tends to be on on how others are doing, treatments, side affects, support, etc. Those that use this forum will be the ones to set the topics and create the dialogues. Any method of making new friends is always good!! We could talk about social security disability -- we definitely have a problem. If you have not contributed within the last 10 years - you don't qualify -- even if you contributed in 2000,2001,2002,2003,2004 -- social security office counts different than I do. (When we opened our antique store, accountant didn't mention that we should still contribute -- so just a word to the wise for future use)!! Rex and Kay

I believe the way it works is that if you haven't paid into social security 10 of the last 20 quarters then you do not qualify for Social Security Disability. Then again, I could be wrong.
