Hi, just wondering about others weight gain.
I originally lost 25 pounds due to amenia just before I was diagnosed at end of last year. I was trying to lose weight and thought the first ten pounds great. When it got to 20 pounds I started to get worried - all too fast this was happening.
But since starting treatment I have put back on the 25 pounds in 5 mouths. Yes 5 pounds a month. I am supposed to be on treatment until October (that's another 5 months). Worried about putting on 5 pounds a month every month till then.
I eat well and go on walks for 1 hr 4x a week. Worried about more vigorous types of exercise. Would like to swim but worried about getting sick in public pool. My diet looks like following: breakfast, small bowl of granola and All Bran (to aid in constipation), snack fruit; lunch, salad (or soup); dinner, heaps of veggies, probably 4-5 different types (no potato), and a lean piece. Hardly ever eat take out or go to restaurants. The occasional small bowl of ice cream. My downfall is probably 5-6 cookies a day in the afternoons.
My questions ... Have others put on weight during treatment? Then, when treatment stopped did you loose it quickly? I'm on the verge of having to buy new clothes and don't want to go down that path.

Re: Have you experienced weight gain during treatment?
Sorry forgot to add that I have reduced wine intake to about 3 glasses a month (white) and drink 1.5 liters of water a day.. I do not drink tea or coffee at all.

Hi Aussiegirl, could this weight gain be due to fluid retention? Maybe you should check with your oncologist and/or your family physician about this. I think it could be a medical problem, actually!
When I was taking dexamethasone, I had an increased appetite and had to really watch what I ate. Since I had more periods of sleeplessness then, it was tempting to 'snack'. Could that be a problem?
