Weekly Poll – Type Of Myeloma At Diagnosis

by Beacon Staff on Wed Mar 20, 2013 10:39 am

This week’s poll question is about the types of myeloma and myeloma-related diseases Beacon readers were first diagnosed with.

A few clarifications:

First, this question is open to readers with any myeloma-related disease.

Second, if you are a caregiver or family member of someone with a myeloma-related disease, feel free to answer on their behalf.

Third, some of you may have originally been diagnosed with MGUS or smoldering myeloma and have since progressed. Others of you may have been first diagnosed with multiple myeloma (sometimes called symptomatic myeloma or active myeloma). Please vote for whichever disease you were first diagnosed with.

If you select "Other", please post a comment below to let us know what type of myeloma-related disease you were first diagnosed with.

As always, feel free to post additional thoughts, feedback, or comments in the space below. They can be very useful to other readers.

Initially diagnosed in Jan. 2011 with a plasmacytoma. After a bone marrow biopsy a couple of weeks later the dx was changed to non-secretory multiple myeloma.

Several rounds of chemo and an autologous transplant later I am doing well.

My best wishes and good luck to you all!

Tom

Dx medium risk MGUS April 2011; Dx high risk SMM July 2012. Had been showing abnormal serum protein about 6 months prior to MGUS diagnosis. Primary doc (family practice) missed it; neurologist picked up on it and initiated further testing.
