This week's poll is about whether you have ever been treated with thalidomide.
As usual, there are a few clarifications to the poll question:
First, this question is only for readers who have symptomatic / active multiple myeloma (that is, not smoldering myeloma, and not MGUS).
Second, if you are a caregiver or family member of someone who has myeloma, feel free to answer on their behalf
As always, feel free to post comments, thoughts, or feedback in the space below. They can be very useful to other readers.
We ran this same poll about a year ago, but we are running it again so that Beacon readers have access to the latest information and can compare it to the previous data.

Re: Weekly Poll - Treatment With Thalidomide (Active Myeloma
On Thalidomide and Cytoxan for 3 cycles. Thalidomide was too toxic and got off of it and went to Velcade, Cytoxan, Dex. Finally dropped Cytoxan and no problems to date. Been on Velcade/Dex/Medrol for the last 6 months. Would never go back on Thalidomide. Side affects were too nasty at least for me.

Re: Weekly Poll - Treatment With Thalidomide (Active Myeloma
Well after voting it looks like I am probably not qualified - as I was treated in 2004 with Thalidomide & have had no treatments since- do still have the disease but have not required treatment for it.- so cancel my vote . is there some particular reason the qualifications are listed After the voting block ??? Re: Weekly Poll - Treatment With Thalidomide (Active Myeloma
Nipon, sorry for any confusion. You're qualified to vote in this poll.
Anyone who has myeloma that requires or has required treatment is eligible to vote. The only people who shouldn't vote are those who have not yet needed treatment for myeloma, such as those with myeloma precursor diseases smoldering myeloma or MGUS.

Re: Weekly Poll - Treatment With Thalidomide (Active Myeloma
I am on thalomid (50mg) and Revlimid (25mg). Just completing my 30th 28 day cycle. Also included dexamethasone (40mg), but stopped after cycle 27 due to side effects. I did take a 6 week break of T/R after cycle 28, also due to side effects, but no real issues since restarting T/R. This combination has worked very good for me, achieving a VGPR and maintained stable myeloma for over 18 months. I am part of a clinical trial. I started treatment May 2008 and have had V/R/D, V/D, R/D, Auto stem cell transplant and 2 other clinical trials, all with PR, but disease progression after 3 to 5 cycles. Thalidomid appears to be the drug that is currently working best for me.
