Weekly Poll - Treatment With Pomalyst (Active Myeloma) 2014

by Beacon Staff on Wed Feb 26, 2014 11:06 am

This week's poll question asks whether you are currently, or have previously been, treated with Pomalyst (pomalidomide, Imnovid).

Pomalyst is the fifth and most recent novel agent to be approved by the FDA for the treatment of multiple myeloma. It was approved in the U.S. a year ago, in Europe six months ago, and in Canada earlier this month.

As usual, there are a few clarifications to the poll question:

First, this question is only for readers who have active multiple myeloma (that is, not smoldering myeloma, and not MGUS).

Second, if you are a caregiver or family member of someone who has active myeloma, feel free to answer on their behalf

As always, feel free to post comments, thoughts, or feedback in the space below. They can be very useful to other readers.

My husband has been taking Pomalyst 2 mg for about six months - 21 days on, 7 off. No dex. His M-spike is hovering around 1.0 - 1.1. The only side effect he really notices is leg cramps at night; he finds that tonic water helps a lot because of the quinine in it. I would be interested to hear from others who have been on it a little longer.

I've been on Pomalyst 3 weeks and am currently in my off week. First of four cycles. The Pomalyst dropped my WBC count so low I had to self inject with Neupogen I had left over from pre-stem cell collection almost two years ago. With doctor's approval, of course. No other side effects.

I'm also taking the clarithromycin [Biaxin] and dexamethasone. I go Friday for labs. Hopefully numbers will have improved so I can begin second cycle.
