This week's poll question is about the treatment of smoldering multiple myeloma.
A few clarifications:
First, this question is only for patients currently diagnosed with smoldering multiple myeloma (that is, not active multiple myeloma, and not MGUS).
Second, by pharmaceutical anti-myeloma therapy, we mean a drug that has been FDA approved or is being developed by a pharmaceutical company for the treatment of myeloma. These types of drugs include thalidomide, Velcade, Revlimid, dexamethasone, melphalan, etc. Treatment for the prevention of myeloma-related bone disease (e.g. Aredia or Zometa) does not fall into this category.
By natural / supplemental anti-myeloma therapy, we mean a natural compound or supplement that may have anti-myeloma properties, such as curcumin.
Third, if you are a caregiver or family member of someone who has smoldering myeloma, feel free to answer on their behalf.
As always, feel free to post comments, thoughts, or feedback in the space below. They can be very useful to other readers.

Re: Weekly Poll - Treatment For Smoldering Myeloma
I was diagnosed in January 2011 with smoldering multiple myeloma and so far have not been given any treatment. Since I don't have bone lesions so far, I guess I am doing okay.

Re: Weekly Poll - Treatment For Smoldering Myeloma
My wife was diagnosed with SMM (IGG lambda) in April 2011 even though she has moderate Anemia. She has monthly blood tests insluding SPEP. She has had two BMB's, Two skelatal x-ray surveys, two full bone MRI's, and a bone DEXA test over the past nine months.
Her blood serum tests over the past year are as follows:
1) HgB between 10.0 and 10.6
2) M-Spike 1.48-1.69
3) IGG Quant. 1943-1946
4) Freelite Lambda FLC 300-400 (K/L ratio .03)
5)Creatinine: .72-.85
6) Calcium: 8.4-9.5
At this point her doctors have considered her stable with no recommended therapy.
On Jan.1 she started monthly Zometa treatments with no adverse reactions so-far
