This week’s poll is part of the series The Beacon is running that asks about comorbidities (additional health issues) that affect people with multiple myeloma, smoldering myeloma, and monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS). Comorbidities are important because they can affect how patients are monitored or treated and because they can affect survival.
This week’s poll is about diabetes.
A few clarifications:
First, this poll is open to anyone who has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, smoldering myeloma, or MGUS. If you are a caregiver or family member of a patient, feel free to answer on their behalf.
As always, feel free to post comments, thoughts, or feedback in the space below. They can be very useful to other readers. In particular, feel free to share whether you feel there is a connection between your diabetes and your myeloma, smoldering myeloma, or MGUS, and whether having both conditions affects how they are treated.

Re: Weekly Poll - Diabetes
I haven't submitted my vote yet. I was an insulin dependent diabetic during the "control" of my acute GVHD (I was on 160 mg prednisolone daily). Currently I am taking 7.5 mg pred daily and I am no longer insulin dependent and am able to control my blood sugar by diet.
Where should I put my vote?

Re: Weekly Poll - Diabetes
Hi Libby, thanks for asking.
Has your diabetes fully resolved?
If it fully resolved soon after cutting your prednisone dose back, then your diabetes would be considered steroid-induced diabetes and doesn't fit any of the options in our poll. In that case, don't vote (since we didn't provide an "Other" option), but feel free to provide any additional information in the comments that might be helpful to other myeloma patients.
If you still have diabetes that is being controlled by diet, then the last option would be most appropriate: "Yes, I developed Type 2 diabetes after being diagnosed with myeloma, smoldering myeloma, or MGUS"

Thanks for your reply. I wont vote. I don't think I am still diabetic, blood glucose levels are fine but I am still on the prednisolone.
